I woke up this morning to the news that all (yes ALL) of the toilets were backed up. I have a new record for longest time elapsed without using the bathroom (twelve hours). Thankfully I used the toilets before I went to bed at one thirty.
Only eleven hours on the bus today. We were threatened with not having any lunch today if we couldn’t make it back quicker. I find this ridiculous. We nearly left half the students in the rush to get back.

Hippies do that because all they eat is tofu. That's why they kill toilets.
Katie, this is such a cool experience for you (monkeys none the less) I envy your experience! Talked with your Dad yesterday and the pride in his words was very evident- gee whiz, girl- you are in another whole place and time! And Dad is so in awe of your experience! So proud! It makes me think of when Mr. Markus and I went to the island of Mahe,(in the Seychelles) off the coast of Africa- it was so different, no amenities as we are used to, and poverty to boot- sketchy electric service, food not generally available (we lived on local grown eggs and chicken and canned tuna and whatever we could get from the vendors and the people we met (bananas, etc). We talked a lot to the locals and learned a lot about how they deal with deprivation. And it is a hard life they have, I must think it is similar for you.We made a couple of good friends there, one of the younger persons is so talented in her craft and wants and needs to expand and leave there, but it is so difficult for the young people with education to leave home. Plus the problem with money and the lack of it is dismal! And you are so much more into the daily life in your place and how it affects the children of the area. Makes you count your blessings when you are home but makes you realize how others have to survive..And I know you will go on to make a difference in the lives of all you touch there. It brings you up a little short but makes you so much more aware. I LOVE Jack's comments, they are so pithy and a hoot to boot! I bet he is missing you so badly! Good wishes from us all and I will look forward to reading your further blogs.
